Set-Top-Box Software Development at Motorola

Former Employee - Software Developer in Taipei (Taiwan)
Former Employee - Software Developer in Taipei (Taiwan)

I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The ex-GI part of Motorola has deep expertise in digital cable technology, e.g. they make unique head-end equipment and have long standing relationships with the MSOs. This creates a substantial barrier of entry in this market.

I also got excellent support from our main suppliers. I also really liked my boss and the teams (in software development) that I was in daily contact with.

Cons

Product development may be split among international teams in non efficient ways. Conservative corporate culture. Aversion to making decisions. Meetings can run long and unfocused if there's no strong driving voice.
