Pros

Motorola was a great company to work for in the late 1990s and early 2000s before the Galvin's lost control. They truly cared about their employees and wanted people to work there till they retired. To be part of the company family.

Cons

After the Galvin's left power the company started a step decline and was in continuous layoff mode that never ended. Even after the breakup and purchase by Google they still struggle to be profitable and it is hard to see how they will turn it around. Like most of the telecom industry seems like another sad story and ending to a US powerhouse company.

Advice to Management

Make the end swift and stop dragging it out.

    Pros

    - Great technical talent.
    - Great market potential.
    - Great market segment

    Cons

    - The environment would benefit from more transparency in program choices, and technical approaches.
    - May be not as easy to find a senior mentor as one would like.

    Advice to Management

Improve ways for new ideas to flow into business opportunities. Use inputs from the team to create and communicate a vision for success to the team.

    Pros

Technology, co-workers. Things were much better while Sanjay Jha was there.

    Cons

Still too much senior management, Several Senior level managers hogging what little credit should be given to the underlpeople doing the real work.

    Advice to Management

Forget Merchandise Mart. What were you thinking? Get some product sucesses first.
