Pros

History of the company Depth of engineering technical knowledge Benefit program and salary scales are competitive

Cons

Transition to Google culture is "assumed" without any training or change management effort Layoffs continue and no one is safe (except the Google folks, GMAP'ers, etc.) Current team has to shoulder the burden of work of those laid off Decisions are firm for a week (or less), then are iterated, leading to a lot of wasted effort

Advice to Management

Keep going forward with the strategy, but understand that Libertyvile and other "remote" outposts outside of Sunnyvale, are also crucial to the success of this venture.

    Pros

The folks below director-level work hard through a challenging environment to get the job done. There is a sense of camaraderie and people are ethical and professional. There can be (depending on your manager) a strong sense of work/life balance.

    Cons

Organization, team, direction and middle management change constantly. There is an inordinate amount of politics across all levels. There is no sense of certainty in the products being developed, roadmap, appropriateness to market, and little direction is given from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Bring in some new blood and start listening to the employees who are out there interfacing with the customers every day.

    Pros

Some very bright people. Great history. Google might still be savior.......

    Cons

Unclear why Google bought Motorola. May have become to small and irrelevant to compete with Apple and Samsung. New Google people have much to learn. Likely to repeat past mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Get on with transition plan before consumers (and loyal customers) forget you.
