Pros

The Work Schedules at Motorola are flexible. This is quite helpful for new dads like me.The current group I work for, team members are very friendly and helpful. Opportunities within the company are good if you want to move to another group. There are quite a few benefit for employees.

Cons

Senior leadership. There is no proper direction. Management is currently confused and lot of mid level manager do not know where the company is heading. There is no Job security currently and some of the employess are in low spirits especially people who have been working for awhile and got used to the company.

Advice to Management

Be aggressive. Hire an aggressive team that thinks outside traditional means

    Pros

Highly competent employees and leaders who recognize it's time for change. As long as senior leadership allows employees to focus on the critical things - innovation, quality, customer experience the only way to go is up.

    Cons

Market pressure is an incredible challenge for MOT at this time and to successfully weather this storm will take focus on the critical value-added acitivites that have historically made the company an American icon.

    Advice to Management

Drive significant change fast and allow employees to focus. Quality, innovation and customer experience are critical. It's too easy to get caught up trying to manage everything or worse - simply continuing to manage things the way they always have been. It's time for significant change and regrouping.

  2. Its not that bad in some sectors in Motorola

    Pros

Balance between corporate and private life. Large, complex, distributed projects. Also there is a lot of space for improvements :). Very good atmosphere in my project (and many projects that i see around).

    Cons

Legacy technologies. Not a software company - its not focused on software as it should be. Design is not everything, its the functionality that currently is the sweet spot. Not that innovative as used to be some time ago. Lack of clear leadership both in technology and management area. Previous CTO was driving a seamless mobility vision, that somehow was never brought to the market. In light of recent announcement about planned company split there is some kind of uncertainity in the air. Its hard to focus sometimes on your day-to-day work.

    Advice to Management

Do the right things, not neccesarily cost driven. Eliminate warring tribes inside company. Walk the talk. Focus on the long term strategy and do not try just to find a next RAZR like silver bullet.
