Pros

Vacation and time allotments are very competitive and it is definitely a growing industry. Many VP and upper mangers have an open door policy.

Cons

It seems that since becoming a Berkshire Hathaway company, they are trying to increase the bottom line by lowering starting salaries and not promoting from within to prevent paying higher salaries.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change is good sometimes, and necessary. We are in the 2nd decade of the 21st century. In order to retain good employees, understand that the industry is growing and offer more salary increases along with the internal promotions.

    Pros

Great atmosphere and very friendly employees to work with. Very laid back, low expectations and accountability make the retention rate high in the company. Can listen to music while you work in a lot of positions - minor perk but nice. Solid benefits with employee discounts.

    Cons

No career paths or direction for any employees. Most employees, roughly 80% are hourly workers or employees that have very simple tasks that anyone can do. Most of these 80% make very little money because of this. Very low feedback from management and it is very biased and one sided when it comes to reviews. Very low pay when it comes to the average amongst other similar positions in electronic component distribution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a consultant or college level management who understand business practices and concepts besides just following your competition. Get more resources and employees to help and make time for your employees. If you expect to compete with your competition on their level you need to incorporate some of their best practices.

Mouser is bound by their endless regulations handed down from the main office.

    Pros

Mouser can be very demanding, and is thus a great place to showcase your work ethic, drive, perseverance, and ability.

    Cons

They are very rule driven, to a fault. There are very strict guidelines for just about everything. The central office demands too much of the regional managers, who then demand too much from the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the regional offices more freedom and be more realistic with your goals. You have the customer service part down pat, but you should be more flexible with requirements for promotions. This will allow managers to promote people who may be more deserving than they appear on paper.
