Pros

Getting free rentals and being able to view them before they went out on the floor, and my manager was really good to work with me when I needed days off. Other than that...nothing.

Cons

I think they need to stop spending so much money on signs and things like that and possibly give the employees a needed raise or even perhaps more hrs and lets face it...or it would be nice to have an extra person in the store and be able to take a break. This company wasnt like this when I first was hired. There was always at least 2 people in the store on friday and saturday nights. but now there is one...and god help if you need to go to the bathroom. Maybe if you are lucky you will get time to grab a bite of something. I am appauled at the fact they spend so much money in printing their signs that not really anyone notices. its SELL SELL SELL...PP PP PP. It doesnt matter if the 10 out 12 you wait on have it. or maybe you have only sold 3 this week...or maybe no customers at all...maybe the ones that have came in already have it....You are still expected to sell it...or else get written up. I think this will be MG's downfall because someone decided that we had to get a CC or get 3 months cash in advance...apparently they have never dealt with the public to know how everyday people are. Alot of people will not do this..and neither would I after getting quiet a few calls about cards being charged that werent supposed to be. And now they tell us we have to give a gift card instead of a refund to the card. Thats Absurb. I had a good manager probably one of the best I have seen. But I know the DM was breathing down his neck...God help should he not get his bonus. Nevermind the poor souls that are in there taking the heat for minimun wage while he gets his new TV or trip. But at this rate, he wont get many more bonuses. I feel like its a matter of time until MG is out of Business esp with as many stores closing that there are.

Advice to Senior Management

Stop spending so much money on signs and things in that order that only get left for a short period of time. And if you would Stop requiring a CC and PP would sell alot better. I know a store where they are not asking for a CC. The Mgr has bought a prepaid card in her name from walmart and uses it. and its selling like crazy. This is Unfair to those of us that are trying to sell it the correct way. its sad that there are people getting terminated for not selling it the right way. I have for the first time tonight sat down and looked at all the bad reports online about MG and the complaints that people have. if something isnt changed soon this company will go under.
  Have you all checked Family Video prices lately? Their Core collection as you call it...is 1.00 and kids movies are free.

Your review is spot on... lol. Sell Sell Sell. Heard that one before. Lots of signs & always changing like every week. Oh we're on the cadence deal 3 for 25 4 for 20 etc, now mid stream change it to the give away single deal pricing 1 for 3.99, 4.99, etc. No raises for at least 2 yrs here! Always one person working. We lost friday with 2 ppl, only one person on friday now. Powerplay is the greatest didn'tcha hear? Oh did you print any didjac in the middle of selling the powerplays and ringing out customers? Every customer should get one printed, yet i am the only one printing them... It's too difficult to print... Powerplay is a decent deal, but no one wants to give up a credit card for it. One thing you failed to mention... Have you ever read the downloads?

There are way too many ppl in the company coming up with crazy ideas... There must be like 100 departments in corporate... I don't remember them, but something like, the "game team" and the "movie team" lol. I'm generalizing, but there is a department for EVERYTHING. Those ppl are not getting Minimum wage guaranteed, but who's making the money for the company? The Store level employees. How about some advertising in the company? BB is advertised EVERYWHERE...... Even on the internet... My coke rewards.com has rental rewards, etc. When was the last time you saw a MG commercial anywhere, or any major type of advertisement? Never.. That's the problem. Takes you back to the time of LSM... Local store marketing! Has that been resurrected yet? I don't know the answer. All i know is there is an early morning meeting in store with the dm on the weekend to review and go over points on selling PP. Asking isn't good enough anymore, we need to harrass the customer endlessly.

Failed to mention the major con of the place. With the limited hours and obvious limited staffing, there is never anyone to cover your shift. If your scheduled, you must find your own replacement--even if your a lowly csa. And no one is ever willing to work a shift for you as that adds up in your opportunities to sell PP and brings down your overall sales percentage... And lets face it, no one is getting rich off of MG.

Just remember that your DM probably has a ton of pressure on him or her as well. If you think turnover at the Store level is bad, the turnover at the DM level is much much worse. I will say however that is sounds like your DM needs to be sure to filter out the negativity before it gets to the store level. As far as PP goes, we all share your pain. The program is great for our customers if the glitches were taken care of. I am amazed your DM or SM hasn't explained why the month to month plan was taken away. Be sure to ask, because it actually does make sense I feel for your SM and I feel for everyone who actually cares about this company.

Im sure they have much more pressure than those of us who work or worked in the store. But they also need to realize threating store level people over their minimun wage jobs doesnt help. I agree the DM's have alot of turn over...Ive seen several come and go in the last 2 yrs. Just when I think Ive seen it all, I see something new lol
 I certainly feel others pain. But I have said goodbye to this job, theres got to be something better than being harassed because customers do not want this plan with its current requirements. :)
