Pros

Smart, driven, and focused group working hard to change the world. I am fired up every single day and the group works very hard but are also like family.

Cons

Tough culture developed over years, and needs to change

Advice to Management

Let go of some of the past. Today is much different than when the first browser was introduced.

    Pros

Great mission, smart and passionate people, flexible work environment, competitive compensation.

    Cons

ambiguous leadership, poor managerial skills, corporate HR department, corporate culture unlike most Bay Area software and Internet companies, declining innovation

    Advice to Management

Bring back the creative process by throwing out the new corporate culture. Mozilla is loosing its identity and has no new innovations to carry it forward for another 10 years. The browser is your one hit and so far no new ideas have emerged as a new flagship product.

Review your new senior leadership structure and don't be afraid to clean house! Mozilla is growing and the needs are changing. Make sure each leader hired comes from true open source backgrounds so that values and the culture don't become replaced with corporate idealism (like the very corporate HR department).

    Pros

Great pay and many great employees who really "get" the culture. Other benefits such as free snacks and regular "cantina" parties create a great vibe.

    Cons

While in the past Mozilla has been open company-wide and eager to help its employees, its recent growth has changed the culture considerably and shed a lot of the better work force. A more closed environment has followed, one that shuns speaking up when something is wrong. A lot of "group think" exists now.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and stop firing or delegitimizing your employees, even if they have a minority opinion. Discourage "group think."
