I have been working at Musician's Friend full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Get to work in the music industry, many people in the work environment, great training on site, friendly and helpful management staff

Cons

On the phone/head set all day (no face to face interaction with customers), have to deal with sometimes upset and angry customers, competitive commission system

    Good Discounts on gear and equipment

    Cons

    Most management doesn't care as long as numbers are met and quotas are reached. You're just a cog in the wheel there

    I worked at Musician's Friend

    Pros

    The coworkers had a really big sense of family. Walking into the job everyone on my team made me feel welcome.
    The team leader was helpful and kind.
    The managers were helpful.
    There was a lot of freedom with credits and what we could do for customers.

    Cons

    The customers are awful! I got screamed at constantly for not knowing a ton about the instrument they played.
    I got yelled at for not explaining was 1 or 2 day shipping is.
    I got in trouble with management quite a bit over attendance, but I had only missed one day, and when questioned, they balked and didn't have reasons.
    Overall, not enough training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I think it's important to give a little bit more support or feedback. More training would be nice too. Also, stop hiring people that do not have knowledge of computers.
