I have been working at Mutual of Omaha full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Fortune 500 company with a good deal invested in IT infrustructure. They invest in their long-term employee's traning and skills.

Cons

IT support is too segmented. This causes issues when changes need to made across areas of ?responsibility for projects or process improvements.

A large number of the IT staff are close to ?retirment and hevily resistant to change. Upper management is aware of the issue and working on ?resolving, however, a number of the younger staff adhear to the same philosophies and, change in ?general at Mutual takes years. There is a small amount of staff that look at the larger picture and try not ?to follow the status quo but generally meet enough resistance to cause their first reaction to work ?around issues versus address them head on. ?

    Pros

Full service cafeteria with additional fast food restaurants, 5 free personal days to use on top of your accrued PTO/vacation time, many different departments to advance in.

    Cons

Salary is slightly lower than competing companies but pretty competative; difficult to advance if you don't know the right people, they do not seem to take into account an associates degree vs. bachelors degree vs. masters degree when it comes to pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advance those with skills and proof of productivity and do not only hire those you are friends with.

I worked at Mutual of Omaha

    Pros

"Once you make it" the money can be good.
You literally are on your own so your time is flexible.
    Great brand name and products

    Cons

You will be on 100% commission, you will not receive any reimbursement for gas or leads. They bring you in under the guise of unlimited income and expect you to survive off family and friends until you must then start buying leads from the company and let it be known they are very expensive (35$ per lead). You will be setting roughly 10-15 appointments a week mostly to Senior Citizens and selling them medicare and trying to "upsell" them on Long Term Care and Life Insurance (or other products). You will be driving around a lot and it gets kind of strange pulling up to "upsell" Senior Citizens. Yes you are helping them but you quickly get tired of the headaches. In order to get "paid" successfully you must not only sell policies but they must also stay on the book for a year. Yes that is right think about that you sell 4 policies then go and pay your bills (mortgage rent or whatever) then you have customers cancel on the policies only to find now you not only owe Mutual of Omaha back but now your in a little predicament. I HIGHLY advise you to explore other options that may provide a small base salary while you start your business unless you have other income to fall back upon or if you like selling and driving around then THIS IS YOUR PLACE!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer starting base salary - Don't let agents pay for leads - Have better training - Think - Yes I said it "THINK" about your employees - offer better employee protection and 401K's.
