I worked at NAS Recruitment Communications

Pros

The staff is friendly.
Most managers are supportive of work-life balance.
A lot of potential to grow if strategic changes are executed correctly.

Cons

The organization is very unstable. It was recently sold and has also recently completed some layoffs.
The staff is generally not held accountable for their actions, which results in poor work performance, decision making and customer service.
The organization is making a slow transition toward digital products and only a quarter of management and staff is on board.
Reviews are not conducted.
Raises are awarded infrequently and randomly.
Paid Time Off is not at-par with industry standards.
Communication is generally poor between divisions and definitely poor between upper management and staff.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out who you are as an organization. Communicate that to the employees.

I have been working at NAS Recruitment Communications

    Pros

    - My direct supervisor is AMAZING
    - The people I interact with on a daily basis are extremely nice. The people make it a pretty great place to work most of the time
    - I generally enjoy coming to work
    - Everyone has a lot of autonomy (and a lot of responsibility); you can't be a slacker and succeed here
    - Relaxed, business casual dress code
    - Lots of potlucks and whatnot, usually orchestrated by the staff
    - I have yet to experience difficulty getting sick time, etc. when needed
    - Many opportunities to learn new skills

    Cons

    - New HQ is a sea of cubicles - very noisy
    - Everyone is extremely over-worked; there were a lot of lay-offs when the recession first hit (2008) and hiring has yet to catch up to the demands of business (a deliberate move to cut costs)
    - Everyone has a lot of autonomy (and a lot of responsibility)...this is a good thing and a bad thing
    - Many members of upper management are technologically impaired, which is a massive hindrance when your primary product is technology-related
    - The pay is universally low, regardless of department; some people haven't received raises in more than 4 years yet see their workloads increase regularly (FTR - I am not one of those people)
    - We do not receive many paid holidays off
    - The insurance and other benefits packages are weak
    - Stress levels are very high
    - They encourage people to further their educations, but do not provide any form of tuition assistance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really want to boost morale - hire more people so everyone can go back to doing the jobs and not an amalgam of four different job titles and offer your employees competitive wages; you'll retain better talent when you compensate them better and allow them to focus on what they were hired to do.
