This is a great place to work if you want to belong to something "bigger than yourself"

Current Employee - NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow in Pasadena, CA

    Pros

Interfacing with extremely intelligent people. Opportunities to work on unique projects. Picking up unique skills or working with people who enhance your existing skills.

    Cons

The bureaucracy is brutal. If you work in a lab you need to take a days worth of safety training to order a bottle of Elmers white glue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shield your workers from the bureaucracy.

Typical government job; NASA has lost its way compared to decades gone by.

Former Employee - NASA OSSI SOLAR Intern  in  Stennis Space Center, MS
Former Employee - NASA OSSI SOLAR Intern in Stennis Space Center, MS

    Pros

You love space. You love physics and science and rockets and Mars and things like that. You work with a bunch of other people who at least like what they do, because they certainly aren't there for the money.

    Cons

The pay is pretty bad, the benefits pretty terrible also, and NASA still uses twenty year old computers and Windows XP for development and realtime OS work. It's pretty pathetic, and doesn't hold a candle to proper software development companies in terms of computing hardware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some of that Apollo fire back.
