Current Employee - Mechanical Engineering in Pasadena, CA

    Pros

You can't beat the variety of work we get here. All of the projects are interesting and the engineers are dedicated and knowledgeable.

    Cons

Sometimes the JPL process is tedious and inefficient. Layers upon layers of oracle web tools which aren't user friendly and bog down the whole process are frustrating. Flight-component scrutiny is mandated for a lot of ground parts, which wastes time and money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't try to run JPL like a production shop; we handle one-off, one of a kind projects. And please continue to lobby for JPL to do interesting projects.

Former Employee - Intern in La Canada Flintridge, CA

    Pros

Working with some of the smartest minds in America on a beautiful campus. Everyone is very friendly, and the work is inherently interesting. There is a sense of community, even with thousands of people employed.

    Cons

Working for the government can be very particular, such as with sign-in and sign-out times, taking a full lunch within lunch hours, etc. Also, salaries may not be great now due to government cuts in budget.
