I worked at NAVTEQ full-time

Pros

Great work/life balance
Good benefits
Friendly and professional atmosphere
Talented and knowledgeable professionals
Casual attire

Cons

Company in restructuring phase; future outlook uncertain
Low morale due to restructuring
Miscommunication is prevalent due to "grapevine" communication
Some departments are territorial and lack cooperation
Hard to get promoted within the company

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management needs to be honest about the future outlook of the company or employees will get their information from elsewhere to make career decisions and look for employment outside the company. The talent is in the trenches, not outside the company.

I have been working at NAVTEQ full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a very open work enviroment. Ideas can be shared openly with management and oversight.

    Very flexible hours.

    Casual dress.

    Cons

Management doesnt manage. Most managers have no managerial qualifications and have no clue of management concepts and are very removed from day-to-day activities.

The promotions and raises are catered to those who are willing to agree with managers at the cost of the teams success.

Formerly known as Navteq, Nokia L&C went through a re-org that promoted employees based on tenure. This unfortunately meant that even if you were responsible for important project activities and were on your way for promotion, that was squashed. Since the reorganization, people who have been with the company for the longest are making way more money and still have little to no resposibilities, well others with shorter tenure but with tremendously more responsibility and experience are making exceptionally less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get different managers in the Advanced Production Facility in Fargo. Normally I would advise to "train your managers," but these managers are untrainable. Also, devise a fair and value based approach for raises and promotions that will replace the brown-nosing based approach and supplement the what-have-you-done-lately approach.

    I worked at NAVTEQ

    Pros

    Safe, solid job
Many talented people doing great jobs quietly.
Near to the Chicago train stations
    Great benefits package offered

    Cons

Difficult to be promoted or move upwards internally. There are many stories of people leaving and being rehired at a higher position after not being able to move up from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within using at least as favorable standards as you use for external hires.

    No opinion of CEO
