Pros

Ample opportunity to improve processes and learn new skill sets. Ability to move within the company after 14-24 months, depending on desired move. Gain insights into broadcast, film, production, and 'backlot' processes in entertainment industry. Some perks, such as employee discounts, ability to view films in advance of release date, and gym facility (on the Universal Studio lot).

Cons

- IMLP internship 'graduates' are given carte blanche into management roles without real experience and are not allowed to fail, even if they cannot deliver or perform, as blame for the failure will be shifted to others. - Most IMLP under-performers are never terminated, only shifted from department to department to keep the statistics of the program appealing to executive management. - Finger-pointing instead of root cause and corrective actions to process issues. - Neoptism of 'cliques' instead of focusing on performance and REAL achievement. - Individuals that perform well and promote collaboration are seen as threats to mid- and upper management. - Formal training (some required for promotion to management) reserved for select few, even if you offer to pay for the formal training yourself. - Long hours are frequent due to poor planned, which is passed-down from higher management.

Advice to Management

- Focus on developing your employee's skill sets. Skilled employees only make you shine brighter. - Foster creative / collaborative atmosphere, instead of a poisonous, political mire - Consider options from outside the immediate chain of command, as fresh, objective views provide considerable insight into potentially broken processes. - Support your employees and they will support you.

  1. Met some great people, worked on some large projects, but can be very chaotic and lacking in work / life balance.

    Pros

Working for a large company that has good benefits. Met some really great people. Good salary. Chance to work on larger projects and easy enough to network.

    Cons

Organizational structure is a mess. Lack of clear focus, and project management is lacking. Every division is a silo so it is hard to get everyone on board with the same agenda.

    Advice to Management

Work on communication and management processes. Divisions are too segregated and need to be more integrated.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - there are some really smart people in the company - big on business process improvements

    Cons

    - lack of true leadership - too many cooks - beauracractic - too many processes - takes forever to get things done - wrong people get promoted because of favoritism and nepotism - pays less compared to peer companies - too many good people are leaving because of career stagnation - not family friendly

    Advice to Management

    Where do I start!!
