Pros

It was a great place to work 40 years ago, The difference between management and employees was closer than it is now. Managers did not live thinking their job may go away because of a wim on middle management.

Cons

The demands that are made on CE II are stupid. I worked in an area where you could get called out at midnight and not get home in time to go to work, Sometimes we would just keep working and try to go home early. I had a friend who worked for a utility company and when he would get called out he was off the next day until he was on call again at 5pm. NY and NJ and most other states treat DWT (driving while tired or sleepy) the same as DWI. NCR should address this in their work requirements of CE and other jobs where one is required to miss a nights sleep.

Advice to Management

Let small thing slide and come down on major offenses. Let employees know if they do right or wrong. Don't wait until time comes for raises to shoot someone down.

    Pros

    I have always liked the challenges they give you and also a nice working environment with plenty of oppurtunity to further ones carreer.

    Cons

    Sometimes you feel lost in the large organisation. Difficult to get higher executives to sit down and really listen to the needs of the market.

    Advice to Management

    Take some time to sit down and discuss how the company can make better use of the knowledge and experience of the staff available.

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Decent pay
    Company vehicle / fuel
    All tools provided
    Good schedule if you are not on call
    Extra pay if you are on call

    Cons

    Waking up in the middle of the night and driving 2 hours to a cisco call and getting home just in time to go to work for your normal 8 hour day.
    The standards for calls per day and time spent on calls do not match up with how each should be. Repair calls take longer than a PM (preventative maintenance)
    Your numbers in outlying areas will not be as good as someone in a bigger city so you are left out of pay raises quite often because someone always has better numbers. If you have up to a 2 hour drive between your service areas you wont get as many calls done as someone in a bigger city that has a 15-20 minute drive between calls.

    Advice to Management

    Develop a pay scale that is not just based on numbers but also on customer reviews. Let guys run overtime if they fell behind on a bad repair call instead of putting them behind for a week and leave work for the weekend people that will have to put in overtime to catch up anyway.
