    I worked at NYC HRA

    Pros

A friendly, relaxed environment allows working and learning at an individual pace. Hours are not set in stone, and generous leeway is usually granted when requesting time off. Anyone with a tendency to cycle between being unable to get their head in the game one day and working themselves to the bone the next is bound to appreciate the flexibility offered here.

    Cons

Working with technologies half a decade out of date will result in experience which is minimally (if at all) viable during subsequent job hunting in the private sector. Being surrounded solely by retrained old-timers and recent college graduates means no access to expert guidance/mentoring. Regrettably, management appears to have no training or understanding of the skills which their subordinates make daily use of, hampering both worker-supervisor communication and proper appraisal of employee value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Internally, there needs to be increased recognition (though, not in a high-profile sort of way) that some employees do not fit the stereotype of a lazy, apathetic government worker devoid of aspiration and work ethic. Opening more venues for such individuals to make meaningful contributions without ostracizing everyone else would greatly increase the morale of the few employees who still care and willingly bear a disproportional amount of burden.

    I worked at NYC HRA

    Pros

As an intern, working at HRA was a fun experience. The people there were very friendly and the work was relatively easy.

    Cons

The work became somewhat tedious and repetitive. It wasn't so bad when you had people working with you though so that you could stay interested.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The work environment is great but the productivity can increase if people were given more incentive to work harder maybe.
