I have been working at NYU (New York University) full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-You can join special interest groups for just about anything you're interested in. Everyone is willing to help, provide referrals, and share knowledge
-Tuition remission. It's NYU! Getting any degree from NYU is a good thing for your career and since it's one of the most expensive universities in the world, the tuition remission is a huge plus.
-If you are diligent, you can really advance your career by taking advantage of the resources available. Not just degrees, but reaching out to thought leaders and faculty, being a part of the community and making connections, attending events to learn and network, volunteering, etc.
-Lots of discounts for a variety of things
-Once you work at NYU you can move around the organization. There's lots of career advancement opportunities throughout the university
-Because just about all the full-time faculty are well known in their field, you will learn a lot about what's trending in science, technology, health, just about anything
-It's nice to be a part of an organization committed to its community. During crisis NYU has a lot of resources to help you or ways you can volunteer to help your community
-Good work/life balance. Lots of time off compared to other industries
-NYU is truly a community. You will really feel like part of a family.

    Cons

-Many in management have been there forever and are stuck in their ways and unwilling to change. Not enough management learning leadership skills.
-There's not enough incentive to work hard, so the longer the employee stays at the organization the more they start to get complacent. You will do all the work as a new employee.
-Even though it's a learning institution, you will be surprised at how much the management doesn't follow basic management and leadership principles. Unorganized.
-Lots of busy work to fill the day with no thoughtful direction or long term goals
-Like any big organization, each school/dept is different so everyone's experience is slightly different, but when there's bad leadership it can be a very toxic environment for everyone. I'm sure that applies to any job.
-Extremely political. You have to know how to navigate the political climate at NYU or you will have a hard time receiving promotions and gaining recognized for your accomplishments.
    -Below industry pay
