I worked at NYU (New York University)

Pros

Tuition remission for many degree and non-degree programs without an extended work commitment. Great location in downtown NYC. Intelligent and motivated colleagues. Good benefits.

Cons

Salaries are lower in an academic/nonprofit setting, compared to other jobs of the same caliber at corporate workplaces. Smaller departments (compared to corporate environments) and unions may make it difficult to advance quickly and/or at regular intervals.

I have been working at NYU (New York University)

    Pros

    - freedom to design your own syllabus and lesson plans, choose your own materials
    - competitive pay

    Cons

    - no health insurance until you've worked there a year and a half
    - never know until the day before the semester starts what you'll be teaching, or if you'll be teaching at all
    - only paid for student-facing time, not the time you spend planning and marking
    ...all the adjunct problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more full-time teachers so your adjuncts feel there's a reason to stay, some chance of upward mobility.
