Pros

Work with very smart, talented people. Innovative products/ideas.

Cons

Top management hires qualified people but then doesn't let them make any decisions. Your brought on board to do a job but your hands are tied because the senior team is constantly changing directions which makes it hard to make any forward progress. On top of it all, management has created an environment that if you are not considered "within the in group" then you are an outcast, all of which is very subjective.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a strategic roadmap/long term plan along with an annual plan. Ensure these plans are shared among all so everyone is marching to this same beat. Then step back and let the team do their job, with periodic reporting to ensure everyone is on track. Have a standard working guideline to which everyone should work toward and then reward everyone accordingly, no subjective atta boys.

    Pros

fast growth, new facilities, good people, exciting projects, hard working staff, competetive compensation

    Cons

Communication = non exisitent. Decisions are made fast without input outside elite circle of "in the know" decision makers, several of whom have never worked outside the company. Competent staff spends too much time carrying out commands, cleaning up poorly planned decisions, establishing procedures after the fact. Management needs to shed the god-like complex and consider offering clear direction, feedback and decentralizing authority. Knowledgeable staff is able and willing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees. Build a partnership. Empower them. Give them tools and information they need to job they were hired for. Learn to communicate effectively and to follow up. Most of your employees are just hardworking professionals who want to contribute--don't take them for granted. Communicate, communicate, communicate.

    Pros

Passionate Billionaire shines brightly, nice new digs.

    Cons

No infrastructure below owner to catch mere mortals.
Too many companies trying to come together feeding off the center for funding and attention with little if any revenue goals or plans of how to create synergies amongst themselves.
A general state of confusion and insecurity prevails amongst management and staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Act like management, enact basic business practice as an organization, communicate a thoughtful plan, support and enable leaders to achieve a shared direction.
