I have been working at Nash-Finch full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Decent pay. Decent work force

Cons

I do not know how they stay in business. Its like working in a circus with no ring leader. You took a great wharehouse and turned it into a joke with the management you have in place.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice if someone was in control.

I have been working at Nash-Finch full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Decent pay, plentg of OT available.

    Cons

Warehouse management is horrible. They pinish employees who get hurt on the job. They preach family values, but ddon't care about you or your family. Youre not a person, just a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating the employees with more respect, even if you treated them like dirt it would be an upgrade. When someone gets injured doing their job, don't go out of your way to make their life hell. Find competent frontline managers who know how to do their job.

Lately it seems like Murphy's Law is the company's Mission Statement

I have been working at Nash-Finch full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong benefits package - 1st rate health insurance, plus basic life, dental, etc at reasonable cost for the employee
Flexible workday is great if you are organized and self-driven
You can build an effective network of co-workers, mid-management and down

    Cons

    Lack of new business development;
No internal job postings and no career growth potential
Poor communication with employees and with customers

In the last 3 years, a notable shift toward data-driven management: not 'profit'... not 'business expansion', not 'customer satisfaction.'... just .. data compilation. Everything is getting outsourced or standardized or both. Actions that should take a half-hour sometimes take 3 or 4 because nothing is handled internally - it's all farmed out.

There's a complete lack of direction and focus and no obvious accountability when new programs or procedures are launched with poor results.

NF seems to be focused completely on cost-cutting instead of business building. And a lot of its cost-cutting measurements have actually been costly to the company in terms of employee productivity - time is spent online or on the phone on internal ops instead of with customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's been quite the shake up in the Industry what with SuperValu's meltdown. Why no push to grab some of those accounts?

Have some interaction with employees under the senior VP level, rebuild some trust with the workforce.

Stop browbeating employees, start listening to good customers to see what we can do better. Stop whining about the tough economy and start going hard after midsize stores and look for new markets.
