Pros

Opportunity to work towards a socially responsible goal supporting youth development. Name recognition and respect for organization.

Cons

Lack of career growth, opportunities for advancement or promotion. No performance review; no way to understand achievement of goals or job success. Lack of desire to promote from within.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Institute a meaningful performance review process; even if it is not tied to promotions or monetary gains, it is necessary for employees to understand if they are achieving goals or need work in certain areas.

    Pros

There are some great people at the lower levels (Managers and below). Good overall mission. Decent location. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Non-profits are going through very difficult financial times due to pension funding laws and drop in giving by individual and corporations. Marketing Dept has a revolving door. Questionable decisions being made by top management. Direction of organization (local vs. national vs. international).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what is the most important direction for the organization (local vs. national vs. international). Focus on a message. Reward great employees.

    Pros

Great mission, wonderful co-workers, very good health benefits and vacation & sick leave. Flexible hours/telework options. On-site cafeteria, free parking.

    Cons

Some managers need to be less nick-picky as complaining about minutiae lowers employee morale - good way to lose talented and dedicated employes. Offices could use some cosmetic upgrades but is acceptable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rein in spending especially in the travel dept. What's the point of hiring out of area staff if they have to fly in all the time and advise some departments to move ahead w/planned meetings when they involve employees coming in from out of state - don't cancel the afternoon before when attendees are in route. Why does it take so long to standardize processes, documents. over a year for a presentation template? With a marketing team and 2 graphic designers, over a year to complete new employee onboarding process.
