I worked at National Association for College Admission Counseling

Pros

NACAC had a very talented, dedicated and hard-working staff.

Cons

There was a level of secrecy throughout management operations. While there, for a little over a year, 5 people were fired and at least 8 people resigned. That is approximately 25% of the work force leaving in a year. This speaks to poor managmemet of the association. People who were fired disappeared over night. Others who left were denied promotions. It was a very unhealthy work environment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The senior level management was entrenched and presented themselves as an exclusive club. The CEO did not even know the name of the woman siting outside her office in the cube. She was referred to as "whatsherface." Show more respect for your employees. Listen to their ideas. Reward them when they do good work.

I worked at National Association for College Admission Counseling full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits are decent but you can find better many other places.
Some staff are friendly but there is a lot of "mean girls" behind the back sort of chatter.
Great government and policy department, but that is it.

    Cons

Everything. No leeway to take initiative. No personal or professional growth. Absolutely no room for promotion.
Technologically ANCIENT. Has a huge data team to process payments. Really?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CHANGE. Stop repeating everything. So many of you haven't been admissions counselors or in the college admissions market for years, do you really understand the people you represent?
