Former Employee – worked at National Association of Children's Hospitals and Rel Inst
Pros – excellent cause, very good benefits, pockets of really good, competent staff, very flexible work environment, good for work-life balance, parking on site and public transportation accessible, staff care about one another, employees often solicited for opinions, lots of opportunity for employee interaction through social events, good promotion opportunities for lower level employees, newly completed office renovation - nearly all employees have offices with doors, including most administrative staff, tend to have the latest in Microsoft technology, good emphasis on environmentally friendly policies, especially for meetings, members are personable, generally a pleasant work environment, leadership is pretty truthful in sharing organizational realities - almost to a fault!
Cons – there is a executive leadership void, discord at senior leadership level, incongruous application of personnel policies, difficulty connecting the dots between different parts of the organization, long-term employees tend to inhibit fast-tracked initiatives and create obstacles to new ideas, large-scale initiatives don't get translated into individual or department-level strategies - organizational strategy doesn't really exist, not plugged in to DC area association industry, IT has a heavy hand in organizational decision-making, no promotion opportunities from midlevel to senior level, poor dental benefits, issues with conflict avoidance - executive leadership team isn't dealing with the real problems - they tend to pick the low-hanging fruit, but never get to the root of problems, not on board with telecommuting, board leadership is not engaged
Advice to Senior Management – Consider negative impact of tenured staff, address conflict, keep up with the great benefits and plug in to DC association community
