I worked at National City as a contractor for less than a year

Pros

Highly organized IT department using true design and test teams. Smart, focused people doing interesting conceptual work.

Cons

The bank was killed by sub-prime loans, the corpse was given to PNC Bank by the FEDS. I was there at the end when whole floors of people were laid off at once. Kinda' like the end of the world.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

[sub-prime loans], if it sounds to good to be true, it is. Greed is one of the several deadly sins, remember, pigs get feed, hogs get slaughtered. When I looked at a Condo loan with an ARM and a balloon. I knew there was a problem.

I worked at National City full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and great staff. They really had their stuff together but in the end it all fell apart

    Cons

One word. PNC. They came in and pretty much ruined everything. Technology went back 10 years.

I have been working at National City full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best reason to work there is that it is a job and you get paid.
    The benefits are good.

Very little diversity, or flexibility in the work schedule.
Not easy to advance and when there are heavy workloads there is mandatory overtime .
    Compensation is tight.

Be open to your employees ideas and be more flexible with scheduling.
Offer more training opportunities and career related classes for free .
