Pros

NECA has very flexible work arrangements.

Cons

I was the only person in my department to be laid off and the only disabled person in the company to be laid off. The only reason they would give me is "functional analysis".

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't have the CEO paint a pretty picture of the company's strength and then have a mass lay-off less than two weeks later.

    Great place to work

    Pros

Good salaries, great benefits, stable jobs: NECA is a great place to work. The senior management changed 4 years ago, and the CEO now lives in another state and visits NECA only occasionally. This is not the best news, but it looks like NECA remains strong in spite of this. I also like that NECA is such a stable place: yes, people do get fired, but only truly incompetent ones. There is no such thing as a mass layoff at NECA (at least there weren't at my time). My senior managers were competent, smart and decent people who were with NECA for a really long time. This is a good sign when people stay at the company for many years.

    Cons

NECA may seem not dynamic enough, there is certain repetitiveness to the whole process: some things happen monthly, others - quarterly, then there is the yearly filing process. Also, working with small telecom carriers may not be that exciting. And of course, NECA was created by the government to help carry out the procedures related to telecom regulation. If the rules change, there may be no NECA in the future. Also, NECA is essentially funded by telecom companies, who recently face a lot competitive pressure, first from wireless and cable industries, then from Voice over IP carriers. They also keep threatening to reduce yearly bonus which is a major chunk of compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

NECA is a great place. Please don't try to change it.

“This place is dog-eat-dog, with incompetent management.”

    Pros

Pros: “Well it used to be for job security - but recently there has been a lot of unfair firings! For unsupported reasons. Managment is coniving and resentful of each other, lots of infighting altho they talk a good game. Upper management does not choose to see this - has blinders on. To hear the Board Pres talk, one thinks it is all glee...this is so farfrom the truth! It is a scarry scenario.”

    Cons

Cons: “Working level managers treated like a child. Every minute coming and going is watched and reported on! The salaried workers are treated with suspicion. Even hourly workers elsewhere are treated better than this company. No support from upper management; they pressure their people to make good reports to look goodBoard membners. Very shady. Very aggressive management.”

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to Senior Management: “Need to shuffle the old ones out...they have the worst attitudes, working in the dark ages, No compliments, no support, dishonest, untrustworthy themselves, good ole boy network. Upper managment encourages other managers to LIE about their people to make themselves look good, to compete with each other. Once this is cleared up - then the org can work well with its many good people under them.”
