I have been working at National Guard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Awesome coworkers. The rank and file really care and want to make a difference.

    Cons

Enlisted and Junior Officers are hampered by COLs and GOs who stay way past thier careers have culminated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to be the bad guy. Tell some of the dead weight it is time to go.

I worked at National Guard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Steady pay, insurance, college benefits, paid training, retirement.

    Cons

Very political at upper echelons. Incompetency seems to run rampant through much of the senior leadership. The Guard still runs on good ol' boy mentality. Knowing the right people allows some folks to get away with things that would get you court-martialed in the Regular Army.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are too many senior officers in the AGR program at the state level and at NGB. Get rid of them- they cost a lot of money, and most of them have little to no responsibility.
