I have been working at National Instruments full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Casual work environment, very complacent with lack of initiative. Good if your just out of college and can't find anything better. PR department is the centerpiece of NI which makes you feel great until things settle in.

    Cons

Pay is low and there is always the very real looming threat of company wide pay cuts. Don't expect ANY pay raise the first year, guaranteed! Company has excessive middle management already which leaves very little growth opportunity for experienced hires. Group think is the ONLY way to survive, don't expect to accomplish anything more than collect a check (occasionally) without being identified for the next round of unofficial layoffs. Health coverage is self financed and requires company mandated yearly physicals with heavy emphasis on company wide weight management. Expect to pay double for your spouse if they can get other insurance including expensive COBRA or poor coverage. I have never been to a gathering here I didn't have to pay for myself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you ask managers to cut something, the last thing they will do is cut is their own adjenda. There is more to the success of a company than playing spreadsheet games, get a semi-coherent vision and use those bright minds to execute rather than make another powerpoint.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
