    Pros

Good, stable employer. They lead the company through the economic downturn without resorting to layoffs. Wide variety of projects and opportunities available. Small or large projects, system integration or custom development - there is something for everyone. And management does what it can to get you working on the things you enjoy.

    Cons

Salaries are not comparable to the market. Almost exclusively promote from within. While this sounds great for career advancement, coupled with the desire to hire new college grads leaves the company without industry experience or training. Inbred knowledge is running rampant. Lack of planning and foresight into offshore operations. Logistics are covered but career growth opportunities are lacking and how they cooperate/integrate with Corporate is lacking. Just because there is a lower cost of doing business doesn't mean you should dive in head first.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider the consensus-driven decision making culture that is being fostered.

NI is an easy and engaging workplace with a lot of great people, though they do not pay competetive salaries.

I have been working at National Instruments full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy and friendly work environment. Engaging projects and work throughout the organizations. Social and connected network of employees. Very solid and stable employer through good and bad economic times.

    Cons

The company tends to be spread out a lot, which provides for extreme variance from manager to manager, causing some concerns about differing treatment of employees. NI also will not pay competitive salaries, and has not attempted to meet the market inflation rates or cost of living changes for employee compensation. It's a great place to work, just don't expect to grow your salary quickly, if at all.

    Advice to Management

Not paying employees even remotely competitive salaries, refusing to match market inflation and cost of living raises in a market like Austin shows a very large amount of disrespect to employees and reflects a culture of not caring about the well being of individual employees from the top down. Please realize that trying to use living in Austin as a benefit with one hand, while ignoring the rising costs of living in Austin with the other do not make for a confident employee. Either adjust salaries for inflation, cost of living, and the local marketplace, or admit that living in Austin is actual a liability for the vast majority of your employees.
