I have been working at National Life Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Vermont is a beautiful state and is a great place to raise a family

    Cons

    Company's leadership lacks strategic focus
Harassment is overlooked; unsafe work environment
Poor operational focus and horrible customer service
Smart, creative people are not welcomed if they "rock the boat"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

NLG's leadership needs to do some soul searching. Leaders mask and hide their problems in order to save face, meanwhile, the overall company's operations are failing and the people on the front-lines are suffering for little pay. The lack of focus on process and concentration on expanding sales is creating short-term lift in revenue, but will be costly in the future due to poor service. When the economy gets hit again, they will go through some serious pains.

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits (NECI run, affordable cafeteria, gym) for a Vermont company, and good opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Know they're a company of choice in the area, and take advantage of it. Used to have a family atmosphere, but that is almost gone now. Managers can do whatever they want and are supported by HR, right or wrong. Seems like they're trying to get rid of older workers lately after years of supporting and showing preference to older workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make managers accountable,
