Pros

Great co-workers, decent benefits, non-profit dedicated to helping others.

Cons

Lower salary compared to profit-driven companies, strict time accounting, lack of career path, minimally accessible to public transit.

Advice to Management

Do not rely so heavily on consultants and contract workers.

    Pros

The NMDP lives and breathes its mission to save lives.
You'll never meet a nicer, kinder batch of co-workers. These people are all heart. Their annual meeting will bring you to tears (in a good way).
Decent benefits package - when was the last time you saw the words "pension" or "long-tern care insurance?" Also, the full-time hourly workweek is 37.5 hours instead of 40.

    Cons

You'll never make the big dollars at the NMDP - it is a non-profit, after all.
Very regulated business, lots of rules, progress moves very cautiously and takes a long time.
Very conservative funding for any corporate initiatives means no risk-taking, no extra staff, and no capital expenditures. You have to work with what you've got, or wait until next year's budget cycle to get funding, which will certainly be cut by 10% if you get approval at all.

  2. A great corporate culture, but little opportunity for professional development
