    Pros

    NOV has a supportive and informal atmosphere with many opportunities for career advancement. Having fun is promoted by leadership whichis awesome. There is a great work-life balance within the culture of NOV. It is a series of small companies inside one large company, so it is nice in that there are many different opportunities from formal to informal work environemts. It is a great company for engineering, manufacturing, finance and sales personell. NOV is great place to gain experience and to develop. Leadership embraces new ideas. If you like working on projects, technologies, products or widgets, this is the place for you.

    Cons

    It seems that outside of the engineering, manufacturing, finance and B2B sales, little growth for a career can be expected. Lower than average starting salaries in comparison to the market average can be expected at this company unless experience is gained outside of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A recommendation is that management should be proactive in helping someone's career according to their employee's interests and not just the manager's business group interests. Currently, career paths are typically informal, and must be driven by the employee. Management should share more stories of their career paths, challenges and successes to motivate younger generation. I bet that more than 1/3 of them have spent time away from NOV, or gained skills elsewhere and then returned. This fact should be embraced and identifying skills obtained at other companies is as important as skills gained at NOV (unless of course an employee only wants a steady job and does not want to challenge themselves to advance)
