Back to National Semiconductor Reviews
National Semiconductor – “National Semiconductor is an average place to work, if you are looking for a corporate career.”
Pros
There are a lot of people who have been with the company for a long time. So the turn-over ratio is relatively low. A typical corporate environment who you will see a fare amount of politics. They have straight technology standards and does not welcome much innovations. If you are looking for a typical job, it is not a bad place to work. Benefits are excellent. They have on-site health facility which is great. The company is however on constant cost-cutting mode. Generally, people are nice compared to many startups in the valley. It is an average company at best.
Cons
The company is in cost cutting mode. Moral is definitely low. Not much innovation in Information Technology. Fare amount of politics in mid to upper management level. Technology is out-dated and controlled by few "trusted" employees. It used to be a big company, but many of them were laid-off. People who remained are generally quite good. Performance are based on the GE model, which is a joke. Managers are forced to rank their employees a 1-5 rating based on certain pre-set percentages. With so many employees laid off, the 3 (average) employees are now 5's (under perform) and so on..
Advice to Senior Management
Company cannot be looking at profit margin all the time. It is time to think about growth.
