I worked at National University of Ireland, Galway full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lovely city. I can't find anything good to say about the university. Very laid back, to the point of never doing anything, in my experience. The only really good point was that, as an academic, I hardly ever had to be there.

    Cons

Awful atmosphere. Riven with politics. Nothing much of a constructive nature gets done. No support for academic staff. Bad facilities. Very little parking. Bad building provision. Awful red tape. Very low academic standards, a culture of pandering to students and dubious academic practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The university is so set in its ways that managment will never be able to achieve any meaningful change.

    Pros

Reductions on courses etc. Good facilities available. Gym on site. Parking permits only 50euro per year for staff. Centrally located to the city

    Cons

Alot of conflicting personalities which made it a difficult environment to work in sometimes. HR a nightmare to correspond with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR need to become more personable. Hide behind closed doors and impossible to contact. Only available by email alot of the time
