I have been working at Nationwide full-time

Pros

Stability, strong trajectory, good industry, good city, educated population, low violence and crime, stable communities. Not a lot of traffic or pollution.

Cons

Central Ohio is cold, gray and not typically a very luxurious or sexy place to live. Can be boring once you've exhausted everything on High street.

    Pros

Learned a lot, just doing insurance changes.

    Cons

Not really anything bad, but a good part-time job, would not consider full-time.

    I worked at Nationwide full-time

    Pros

Discount on car insurance and activities if you join the activity association

    Cons

Unreal expectations of performance, especially in Commercial Claims.
Promotions are based on who you cozy up to, not how well you do your job.
    Pay raises? That's a joke
    Out of touch directors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put in place a director or supervisors that are not afraid to make decisions and not merely defer to your technical directors. Your claim technical directors are not gods, but they act as if they are. Stop basing one's performance on how well your non-customers rate your service. What sense does it make to penalize an employee when a claimant, who we have denied, give us a poor rating. Hello? What sense does that make? Stop promoting people who are not the best skilled in what they do. How many people have to leave/resign/get fired, etc, before you realize the problem is not with the people, but with the managers and overall direction of the department. You sell a pretty tale in the marketplace, but the work place continues to know and understand the Nationwide environment. Nationwide is not on anyone's side - at least those that have been crushed by your corporate politics and ineffective leaders, especially at the claim manager and director levels.
