Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management in Columbus, OH needs to listen to the workers out in the field more. Your field employees (for the most part) are intelligent, have your back and know what they are talking about. They have good ideas and want to see the company succeed. Allow them to share their knowledge of how things work in the field and how they can improve and USE that "insider info" and you will be able to do amazing things! The only reason I left Nationwide is for family. Otherwise, I would still be working there - as long as they'll have me! Maybe one day our paths will cross again! ;)

    Current Employee - Claims Representative

    Pros

    - Good place to start to get some work experience
    - Benefits are decent
    - Company culture is progressive in most parts of the country
    - Hours vary but are usually fair.

    Cons

    - Extreme amounts of red tape - Very inefficient management style
    - Constantly understaffed
    - Raises are a joke and don't keep up with the cost of living/inflation
    - Offices are located in cities that are not destinations for prime insurance talent which makes it difficult to hire effective employees.
    - Company is notoriously cheap in salary compared to industry average

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Pay your staff what is the fair market value to retain top talent
    - Stop the culture of "you should be thankful for your job in this economy." This only makes morale worse among your employees.
-Hard work and effective results should be recognized. Top talent in the lower ranks is ignored by the middle management.
    - Don't be afraid to take risks to stay on top. Management is slow to make to decisions and delays innovation constantly.
