Pros

Friendly nice people, big enough organization to have a lot of different opportunities.

Cons

Management doesn't take tough stands; sends talent out the door to protect own nest. Too many AVP and VP's who are entrenched for life. Lack of real diversity. Mind numbing corporate niceness.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the courage to promote talent from the inside and to listen to divergent points of view

    I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Well-disciplined community for technology within the company that sets standard architectures and keeps momentum in technical innovation moving.

    Cons

    There is a lot of interesting technical work being done in the company... but only in their central Application Development Center. The IT partners in business areas are left in the cornfields while the central development center moves in interesting directions and have a much more social and innovative atmosphere.

    Cut the BS and get all of IT aligned in the same direction.

    I worked at Nationwide full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    good pay for not a lot of responsibility, 15% shift diff if you start after 2:30

    Cons

    awful health insurance, difficult to move up, easy to make lateral moves, job can be depressing at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    get better health insurance, you want people to work, but make it almost impossible to go to the doctor when they need it
