I have been working at Naval Surface Warfare Center

Pros

The salary and benefits package is extremely competitive. Flexible work hours and plenty of vacation time.

Cons

The pay is competitive up to a point; the glass ceiling on pay bands is extremely hard to break through. Senior management doesn't seem very interested in developing lower level employees. There's a sense that younger people with excellent skills are expected to last a few years and then look elsewhere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your best people and develop better processes and programs to motivate and retain them.

I have been working at Naval Surface Warfare Center

    Pros

Great place to work. Many opportunities for advancement and great support for pursuing continuing education and advanced degrees. Management (in my department) was supportive and great to work with. Coworkers are some of the best and the work is something we can be proud of.

    Cons

Big Navy and government bureaucracy can sometimes get in the way. Sometimes the focus of work is to fix the latest "fire drill" and not the long term issues to benefit the Navy.
