Pros

Minimal bureaucracy and nimble, deep platform. Many dedicated and impressively competent employees. High quality client service. Great reputation within the law firm and in-house counsel communities. CEO and CFO are great at communicating with Wall Street.

Cons

Notable lack of ethnic diversity. CEO and president are incredibly dedicated and hard-working, and known for integrity and fairness, but lack substantive experience as consultants. Practice leaders are generally poor managers of people, and wholly lacking in leadership skills. Senior lateral hires are often among those who were perceived as most polarizing at prior firms, which makes it even harder to recruit senior laterals who are more partnerial and collaborative.

Advice to Management

1) better signal succession plans; 2) replace practice leaders with those who are truly partnerial and collaborative; and 3) go private.

It really depends on the group you work in. Could be OK, could be horrible.

    Pros

The pay is on par with the industry. Bonuses completely determined by hours worked with no performance component, which is good and bad, of course. Casual work environment.

    Cons

I can only speak to the Economics practice and mainly to the Chicago Partners end of it. The practice consists of three separate firms that have been merged into one. There are remnants of LECG, Chicago Partners, and Empiris at this firm. They do very dissimilar work. Chicago Partners concentrates on very high end, large stakes litigation with prominent academic economists. That seems pretty interesting. However, these economists have clearly decided that there's no way to make their earn out and have decided not to bring any cases. A horrible practice to be in for career development and mobility.

  2. Firm is spotty but some good parts

    Pros

Trying to be a good firm, but they seem to lack success at doing it.

    Cons

Many people are not bringing in any revenue. Financial difficulties.

    Advice to Management

Management has not been active as consultants in many years, and they need to talk more with people on the ground.
