I worked at Navy Exchange part-time (more than an year)

Pros

-they prefer to promote within
-easy to get time off
-increase in pay every few years
-lots of different cultures work here

Cons

-can be very cliquish
-workers frequently marry/date management, which causes friction
-it's nearly impossible to get fired
-you are required to take back ALL merchandise, practically. No matter how long it's been since the customer had it and (clearly) wore it or used it.

    Pros

    Tax free shopping
    Generally good co-workers
Vacation and sick pay accumlates fast

    Cons

Favoritism. If you don’t babysit your supervisor’s kids, give her a ride to and from work, or go shopping with her than your dead in the water. Management will change their minds multiple times in the same day. Management and supervisors will lie right to your face and expect you to be ok with it. Temporary employees get paid more than permanent, and people hired after you will get started out at higher rates than people that have already been working there. I really could go on all day.

    Pros

Access to the Navy Exchange, no tax on purchases. Work/Life balance.

    Cons

All employees, except for salaried managers are Union. Lack of recognition for major accomplishments and positive changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Weigh out the pros and cons of your managers and support them. Leave out your personal "feelings" and be a professional. Look out for the best interest of the company and recognize when you need to step up and protect those who support you.
