    Pros

Decent pay. Most sales associates will average between $40,000 and $50,000 a year.

    Cons

One of the lowest paid commission only structures in the industry, around 2%. Entirely too many sales associates and more being added all the time. The company does not care if there are too many sales associates, you are commission only and it is common during the week to have twice as many sales associates as customers. They see this as great customer service, although customers will complain they are being smothered by sales people and find it very annoying. You are required to come in on your days off for training or meetings and are "unpaid". Again most all of the sales positions are commission only so if you aren't selling you aren't compensated. Training during store hours are required and "unpaid". You are required to attend meetings before the store opens "unpaid". Merchandising the sale floor after the store closes is required and "unpaid". You are required to work the occasional last minute unscheduled extra shift as they deem worthy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are the customer contact and the driving force behind the company. Try showing some respect to your sales team and make us feel welcome and appreciated instead of "there's the door and if you don't like it don't let it hit you in the a**".

Ok, place to start your career but my suggestion is to not remain long term.

I worked at Nebraska Furniture Mart full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good for retail. They have a 'No layoff' policy.

    Cons

Good talented people tend to leave. Some even let go. You will succeed by being political rather than productive and effective. The areas that seemed the weekest were Electronics and Warehousing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistent, respectful leadership throughout departments. Some department managers do a good job supporting there team, and others tear down there teams. Leaders are people where the team wants to follow. Care and support your team and that will make you look good. Not, the other way around.
