Pros

The Nektar of the last few years has made great advances in providing the systems and support that employees need to get their jobs done. Management now diversifies the company so we're not dependent on a single drug anymore. The atmosphere is friendly, and the backstabbing is at a minimum.

Cons

Some of the employees who are long-term sometimes act like they're privileged or something, even though it's a fundamentally different company now.

What you did for Exubera means nothing anymore. Move forward!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. People might not agree with every single move the company makes, but the overall direction is looking great.

    I worked at Nektar Therapeutics

    Pros

    This technology-driven company has always attracted great scientists. The level of technical competency is very high.

    Cons

    Nektar could not make up its mind what it really wanted to be when it grew up. Pegylation was the profit-making part of the business. Inhalation never went anywhere. Managed to get one inhaled product to market which was very quickly withdrawn due to partner inability to sell it. Several projects were assessed and rejected and revived several times because they were people's "pet projects". Previous CEO could not make hard decisions. Current CEO is more interested in outside appearance and share price than delivering a pipeline long-term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus. Your job is to bring products to the market and deliver long-term stable growth. It is OK to have an investor call where there is nothing to report but ongoing positive progress in all projects. Once a project has been assessed for feasibility and rejected, there is no need to go back several times and re-assess it. Just come up with a new (and better) project.

    Pros

    Nektar pays well and the benefits are great. Paid time offs are abundant. There are many pleasant and professional employees.

    Cons

    There are also many employees with too much ego. Upper management do not care about employees at all. It's all about the timelines, enrollment, and the stake holders. People with bad characters are promoted not reprimanded... Some people are picked on until they leave or get fired. They need to understand that people don't tolerate "The Devil Wears Prada' kind of leadeship and work culture. The company already lost so many talented individuals and they will lose more if the culture does not change dramatically. There's too many gossiping and too much politics. Too many people with 'very strong personalities'. It's like people are always out to catch your mistakes and never look at your contributions. I couldn't last in a place like this. Life is too good and I know there are many companies out there worth working for.

    Listen to feedbacks like this because they do matter. People who writes these reviews are not disgruntled employees. They are people who like me would have stayed if only the pay matches the quality of life and weretreated well.. This company needs change starting from the top. Seriously, Senior VP/CMO needs to go.
