I worked at NetApp full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great culture, great people to work with. Definitely an enjoyable atmosphere to spend your time working and building a fulfilling career

Cons

Execution and management can be a bit localized. If you are outside of a major corporate office (SVL, RTP) visibility is extremely difficult.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I always enjoyed the positive and candid nature of the business, though sometimes that can pull the wool over the eyes of some from within. In those circumstances being more open and honest in addition to being candid would be of great value.

Still feels like a small company in a lot of (important) ways

I have been working at NetApp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

NetApp likes to hire smart people who are passionate about what they do. There are high expectations for performance and even higher expectations about collaboration. It takes a while to get decisions made (both big and small), but once they are made they are executed with extreme efficiency. The company is nimble and can still operate like a small company in a lot of ways. The emphasis on company culture is truly remarkable and lived by virtually all of the top level executives. There is a lot less corporate ego here than in other places. The top execs stand in line in the cafeteria like everyone else.

    Cons

Having a lot of passionate people makes conflict unavoidable and decision making slow. For the most part however, people are very respectful of conflicting opinions, come up with workable strategies and move forward together. Short term decisions and investments and little process becomes quite problematic as the company grows.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to value the front-line workers, demonstrate humility and respect and the rest of the company will follow suit.

Former Employee - Intern in Raleigh, NC

I worked at NetApp as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    -Not too high stress
    -Can pick your own project
    -Offered relocation expenses
-Met a bunch of fascinating people and learned exactly how big tech companies work
-Had an awesome manager and worked on a great team

    Cons

Make sure you pick your team carefully. Also since you are given your own freedom in a lot of areas, you have to keep yourself motivated to make sure you don't run into a ton of work and other troubles at the end of your internship. Pay might be a little less than other places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Had a great time, and your recruiters do a great job in keeping interns happy. Keep publicizing company culture and more students will take interest in NetApp opportunities.
