I have been working at NetApp full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Extremely flexible with employee environment, work remote, in the office, etc. as long as the employee is productive, that's what matters, not where. Excellent benefits, consistent incentives, and very open policy with annual bonus/salary increases. Some of the most intelligent engineers on the planet and the product innovations show it.

Cons

Challenging to work with product management and upper management when neither comes from engineering. The technical leadership (TDs) help overcome this.

Advice to Management

Be more consistent across business units with focus. Put more resources where the priorities are (i.e. flash).

I worked at NetApp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a pretty comfortable environment. The engineering organization is full of good, smart people, who generally want to do the right thing. Senior leadership is pretty good.

    Cons

It's become a fairly mature company, with some legacy baggage. A lot of people have gotten comfortable and are content to run on autopilot, not doing the best work they are capable of. Communication between groups could be better (though really, is probably better or on par with most organizations of its size).

    Advice to Management

Invest more in engineering tools and process. Connect engineering and marketing better -- most engineers don't know very well how what they're working on is used by customers, except what percolates down through several levels of management.

I have been working at NetApp full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

NetApp has been on the Fortune magazine's "great place to work" list for 12 years in a row!

    Cons

Silos tend to pop up and the same problem gets solved multiple times. Need more cross-functional interaction.
