I have been working at NetIQ full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good work culture and management, not bad salaries/wages, good product line and service offerings, god financial backing by investment groups.

Cons

Poor annual raises and bonuses, no clear growth paths for tenured employees, disoriented product management resulting in good products losing market.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It'll be good to focus on improvement of products and not let them slip down to competition. Also recommend nurturing internal talent by awarding the deserving ones with good raises/bonuses and growth opportunities.

    I worked at NetIQ

    Pros

The old NetIQ was a company of engineers. A place where you could carve out a career for yourself. Current employees are still able to reap the benefits of this in the form of vacation time, flexible hours, good facilities and an overall enjoyable environment. The merger with Novell has helped create a very diverse portfolio of products and has introduced some new ideas and talent into a company that had been stagnant for a while.

    Cons

The current NetIQ is a company of managers. You work there for the paycheck. The increased emphasis on outsourcing has confirmed the belief that engineers are interchangeable. Raises and promotions are often underwhelming and sparse. Backwards hiring practices mean that mediocre employees are hired on and then never fired out of fear of not being able to hire a replacement. This has created a situation where the talent slowly evaporates, leaving the company in the hands of people incapable of filling their shoes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinvest in your engineers. Bootstrap product innovation by hiring good talent, cultivating existing talent and eliminating dead weight. Strengthen the core values that have made NetIQ a good company to work for.

I have been working at NetIQ full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company has inherited some great products out of the Novel acquisition, which are complimentary to the NetIQ security space. Company is progressive, and seems to look after it's staff. Now seems to be a good time to be in the organization, as the product portfolio is getting good development support.

    Cons

Should take more advantage of it's sister Business Units investments from Novell, SuSE and Attachmate. Better induction processes needed for new staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to the new blood and new talent to breathe new life into the organisation with fresh ideas, external industry experience and creative ideas.
