I worked at NetSpend full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Good people
Executive team with a vision
Location, location, location - and parking is good for all downtown events.

Cons

* pays way below market, which I learned once I got the same job at another company
* No diversity in upper management
* As someone else mentioned, HR is totally inept and worthless to everyone except management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for diversity. There are plenty of very talented minorities in the marketplace.

I worked at NetSpend full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Passionate colleagues, fast paced dynamic environment that gave you an opportunity to stretch and learn. It was possible and even expected that employees would proactively step up help their colleagues solve a problem.

    Cons

Compensation was below industry average. There was little time and effort spent on helping employees develop their careers. As job responsibilities for positions increased exponentially, salaries remained the same. So without any kind of career path, employees who had become mission critical, left the company for better opportunities elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful to avoid emphasizing form over function.

Great company that cares about its employees, but typical call-center environment.

I worked at NetSpend full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, great coworkers, free soft drinks, decent management (at least in my department) that does its best to care for its employees.

    Cons

If you work at the call center, it's no different than any other call center: you will be cussed-out, not get much support with the management on duty, and it's a "just put up with it" mindset when it comes to verbal abuse by customers. It's not "them" (the verbally abusive customer) it's "you" for taking it personal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that your employees work really hard to make the clients happy but can't always do so and follow regulations. In other words, be more understanding if an employee is a wee bit upset over getting yelled at instead of telling them "not to take it personal".
