Unpleasant.

ProsIf you live in New Braunfels there is no commute. Other than that I can't find many good reasons other than it is a job during this current economy.

ConsManagement doesn't value or invest in their employees. There is a lot of double standards. Upper management has created an environment of mistrust and actively encourages bullying within the company. Pay is lower than the average for must of the support staff. Work life balance is only encouraged for those in management positions or favorite of management. Difficult to schedule time off, because company won't hire adequate staff for coverage. Even with the staffing shortage, there is a policy in place that allows salaried to work half days and get paid full 8 hours. There is a ration of 1 manager/supervisor for every 3 employees. The company is part of the city, but allowed by city charter work operate as a separate entity. They take fewer holidays than others cities or public entities. Pay raises are very skimpy for the employees, but management tends to be given generous compensation. A number of the employees are receiving wages that keep them below poverty level. They aren't up to speed or very current with technology and use a patchwork of systems that they attempt to force to communicate with each other.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees and train them. Increase staffing in support areas. Get rid of the company bullies. Hire an independent ombudsman to handle complaints and consultant that works independent of the Executive Management to do this. The CEO is working more as a lobbyist than as an employee of the company. Let that person go and hire a new CEO. More family and employee friendly policies need to be implemented. Fairness within company on administering this policies needs to occur. Better pay is needed. Do away with some of the fluff such as safehave and look at reducing some of the middle managers/supervisors. Little top heavy with management. Provide more time off. Invest in upgrading technology, but don't use internal staff and management to do this, since technology is currently used to hold areas of the company hostage. Outsource to a company that will implement correctly and maintain.
