I worked at New Relic full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Product quality and customers service are top priorities. Excellent benefits. Everyone embraces engineering best practices and agile development. Technical debt is well managed. Engineers are allowed to devote a small amount of time to self-driven initiatives. Good opportunities for employees to expand their knowledge and skills. Awesome company parties and offsites. Customers love the product and the company!

Cons

The product is approaching maturity, so there are fewer opportunities for new feature design. Middle management can be dictatorial, and often shows favoritism when promoting over merit and achievement. There are relatively few opportunities for advancement.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay close attention to senior engineers, and ensure they are happy in their roles. Provide more opportunities for innovation and advancement.

    Pros

    Rapid growth, customers love our product, some very smart and motivated colleagues, beautiful office, excellent work-life balance

    Cons

    Not all colleagues are 100% reliable, compensation isn't top dollar, growth is bringing some slowdowns in the pace of innovation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Instill a culture of mutual responsibility amongst all employees - if you say you'll do something, you can be relied on to do it - and vise versa

    - Great people
    - Senior management have clear direction and employee happiness comes first
    - Lots of Random days off for over achieving
    - Amazing software

    Cons

    - growing very fast, hard to keep up on new faces
    - lots of changes (moving, new tools, process, etc.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep bending but don't break. The rapid growth can be a little concerning and maintaining the amazing environment may prove difficult
