I have been working at New Relic full-time (more than an year)

Pros

We have a chance to work with a team of incredibly smart people who are committed to making the company successful.
The product is attempting to solve many complex problems in increasingly elegant ways.
While there's technical debt, it's light years away from the 'mountains of garbage code' developers are required to support at other companies.
Two beautiful office locations loaded with amenities.
The office is (almost entirely) empty by 6PM.

Cons

Don't get too comfortable: with rapid expansion come frequent changes. While execs try to share information, no one should get to attached to their title, their goals, or where they sit.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to trust your front-line engineers to bring improvements and find the best way to solve problems.

    I worked at New Relic full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Product quality and customers service are top priorities. Excellent benefits. Everyone embraces engineering best practices and agile development. Technical debt is well managed. Engineers are allowed to devote a small amount of time to self-driven initiatives. Good opportunities for employees to expand their knowledge and skills. Awesome company parties and offsites. Customers love the product and the company!

    Cons

    The product is approaching maturity, so there are fewer opportunities for new feature design. Middle management can be dictatorial, and often shows favoritism when promoting over merit and achievement. There are relatively few opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay close attention to senior engineers, and ensure they are happy in their roles. Provide more opportunities for innovation and advancement.

    I have been working at New Relic full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    This is the company that believe in respect, pushing yourself, a balance between home and work (really, not just posturing, they really believe in this) and giving back to the community.

    Extremely relaxed work environment but also a company filled with extremely smart, motivated people. A perfect balance of freedom and intensity.

    Cons

    The view in the Portland office is distractingly beautiful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you are doing. That might sound easy but it is not. Please, keep it up, you have made an incredible place for amazing people to collaborate and excel as a team.
