I have been working at New York City Department of Education full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you have at least 30 credits beyond your masters' degree you will be compensated nicely...for a teacher that it.

    Cons

A teacher's work is never done and that is an understatement. If you're a caring, dedicated teacher then you'll find that most nights during the week you'll be working after work at home. Weekends included. There is always something that needs to be done whether it's in regards to paperwork, lesson planning, anecdotals, or grading. The amount of work that one must put in does not equal the compensation. I would not recommend teaching to anyone. Thank goodness there are still people who want to be teachers but, in this day and age it's not worth it at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to run your organization more like a business. The teaching profession is lacking professionalism particularly in the urban areas of New York City.

I have been working at New York City Department of Education

    Pros

Decent salary, time off, close to home, good pension plan, enjoy all that the city offers, very rewarding, and never boring

    Cons

Very high stress levels, administration expects way more than what one can do in a reasonable time, students can be difficult

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that your teachers are professionals, and in most cases, don't need to be micromanaged. Also, be more reasonable in your due dates and time frames.
