I have been working at New York City Department of Education full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Benefits are great, everything you can get but dental. you can incentives from everywhere.
job security is huge, hard to get fired when behind a big union. raise every year.

Cons

For a tech, there is a ceiling defined by the amount of students. you will be stuck at level one if you school has less than 500 students. there is no up the ladder

    I find that I am helping the students to learn, and I find the job rewarding.

    Cons

    Some of the students are difficult to work with because some of them have behavior problems, but I manage.

    You have to have a lot of patience to work with these students which I do have a lot of patience.
